General Rainer Schuwirth

Born 12 July 1945 in Regensburg, Bavaria. Grew up in Regensburg and Bonn. Graduated from academic secondary school in Bonn in 1964.
Married to the former Barbara Hackbarth. One son, one daughter.

 

 

 

01 April 1964 Enlisted in the Federal Armed Forces.
Until 1966 Artillery Officer training
1966 – 1976 Assignments as Artillery Officer and Honest John Battery Commander.
1976 – 1978 Federal Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Hamburg.
1978 – 1981 G 2 Staff Officer (Intelligence Estimates) at HQ CENTAG, Heidelberg.
1981 – 1983 G3 Staff Officer (Operations) at III Corps in Koblenz.
1983 – 1985 Commander, Missile Artillery Bn 150 (LANCE) in Wesel.
1985 – 1988 Assistant Branch Chief (Military Leadership and Civic Education) in the Armed Forces Staff, Federal Ministry of Defence, Bonn.
1988 – 1990 Military Assistant to the Federal Minister of Defence.
1990 – 1991 Branch Chief (Military Policy) in the Armed Forces Staff, Federal Ministry of Defence, Bonn.
1991 – 1993 Commander, Armoured Brigade 8 in Lüneburg.
1994 – 1996 Head of the Military Policy Division, German Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels.
1996 – 1999 Assistant Chief of Staff Armed Forces Staff Politico-Military Affairs and Operations, Federal Ministry of Defence Bonn.
1999 – 2001 Commanding General IV Corps, Potsdam.
