Forum on Business and Security

The Science of Protection

A meeting on Business and Security will take place in Berlin from 10-12 February 2004, sponsored by the business community, which will provide an opportunity for an examination of current threats to security facing the global economy. The meeting will be a prelude to a NATO Forum scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey, in May where businessmen and scientists, analysts, technical specialists and government experts will examine how they may help to make the world safer for the business world. The co-directors of both events are Dr. Harold Elletson (UK) and Dr. Kemal Yazicioglu (Azerbaijan).

Professor Fernando Carvalho Rodrigues, Director of the Security Related Civil Science and Technology area of the NATO Programme for Security Through Science, said that the Forum will provide businesses with an up-to-date briefing on threats but it will also focus on key sectors, such as biometrics, where science is helping to develop new security solutions. "Business and Science, working together with Government, can provide solutions to the new problems that face us." said Professor Carvalho Rodrigues. "At the NATO Forum, we will look in detail at what is being done and what needs to be done."
