On 24 October a "Grand Gathering" took place at NATO Headquarters, when for the first time all the NATO Science Committee's advisory panels met together with the members of the 46 representatives of the NATO Science Committee in Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) format, together with representatives of the Mediterranean Dialogue countries. A plenary working session featured four round-table discussions which examined different aspects of the Science Programme in the light of the new challenges to NATO and the changes which would take place following the Prague Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government on 21 and 22 November.

The Grand Gathering was also the occasion for the presentation of the first NATO Science Partnership Prize to three winners from Russia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom by Lord Robertson, NATO Secretary General.
