SPS contributing to defence against terrorism

Hello Kabul, this is Bucharest calling!
A new video teleconferencing (VTC) facility, made possible via the NATO Virtual Silk Highway project, connected students at the Young Atlanticist Summit in Bucharest on 2 and 3 April with their counterparts in Kabul University. The students participated in a question and answer session with the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, and they also exchanged views and opinions with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the American First Lady Laura Bush.
NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme organized high-level Forum on environmental security.
The second NATO Science Forum on Environmental Security took place on 12 March 2008 at NATO in Brussels. The Forum brought together around 20 key speakers and over 120 environmental security experts from NATO member, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue countries to address the linkages between the environment and security.

Mediterranean countries discuss environmental security at NATO-OSCE workshop
Water scarcity, land degradation and desertification were the focus of a workshop, organized jointly by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, the OSCE Spanish Chairmanship and the OSCE Office of the Co-ordinator for Economic and Environmental Activities on 10 December 2007 in Valencia, Spain.

The Science for Peace and Security Programme offers grants to scientists in NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue countries to collaborate on priority research areas. Grants are also offered to assist the academic community in Partner countries to set up basic computer networking infrastructure and to optimize their use of electronic communication .
Moreover, the SPS Committee engages in nationally-funded activities in order to respond rapidly to the most critical needs of nations and develop practical recommendations for defined end users.
