    Co-operative Safeguard

This exercise took place in Keflavik (Iceland) in July 1997. It was vastly different from past exercises of its kind. Previous NATO/PFP exercises had often dealt with military troops practising peacekeeping operations similar to those currently taking place in Bosnia. In contrast, Co-operative Safeguard was designed to provide participating nations the opportunity to hone their disaster relief skills, focusing on search and rescue operations, vehicle rescue, emergency medical care and triage procedures.
