On 6 May 1955, the Federal Republic of Germany joined the Alliance. On the occasion of the 50 th anniversary of its membership, the German Ambassador to NATO, Dr. Ruediger Reyels, explains the historical significance of Germany joining the Alliance and how NATO provides a framework for German foreign and security policy. He also talks about the strong public support for the Alliance and its missions in his country today. In closing, he shares Germany’s point of view on the ongoing transformation of NATO.
