Aryon can finally do his homework at home
Tradesmen of the German
Defense Administration Field Office KFOR design desk that is suitable
for handicapped children.
Mališevo/Malisheve, Kosovo – It was no longer an unusual request for
assistance at the competent CIMIC Center Mališevo. The first instance
was in 2006, when the Facility Engineering Service (FES) of the German
Defense Administration Field Office KFOR in Prizren built a handicapped-suitable
chair for a physically disabled pupil of the school "Bela Crkva",
which enabled a 9-year-old boy to participate in classroom instruction
without a wheelchair. In the present case, the challenge for the craftsmen
was incomparably bigger for 7-year-old Aryon Krasniqi is forced to
master all activities of daily life with his feet because he was born
without arms.
Already a year ago, the CIMIC Center Mališevo had handed over a handicapped-suitable
workplace for Aryon to the school.
In order to provide the boy with a better possibility to fulfill his educational
needs also at home despite his disability, Captain Manfred O. and his
team at the CIMIC Center Mališevo obtained the necessary means from the German
soldiers' association "Lachen Helfen". The FES craftsmen designed
and built a desk tailored to the boy's special needs.
The incorporated low and oblique part of the desktop and the desk chair
mounted in front of it now permit Aryon to do his homework at home,
at his personal workplace. A large abacus completes the workplace and
has been fitted such that it can be operated by foot from the chair.
During the hand-over to the Krasniqis, the most precious sign of gratitude
for the team from the CIMIC Center and the two craftsmen was seeing
Aryon, his brother and one of his sisters curiously eyeing and taking possession
of the desk, chair and abacus. They tested especially the possibilities
of adjusting the chair. Then, in order to show how well he managed using
the new equipment, he immediately took a seat on the chair and skillfully
wrote a few words into his exercise book.
