Finnish team wins MNTF Centre floorball tournament

On the 5th – 6th of October 2008 Camp Ville, Lipljan/Lipjan played host to the Multinational Task Force Centre floorball tournament. In the battle for honor and glory there were eight teams involved: Latvia National, Slovakia National, two Czech National teams and four Finnish National teams.

The teams were split into two groups of four teams. After first day games two teams were qualified for the semi-finals on Sunday the 6th. In the first semi-final Finnish A-Coy team beat the Czechs with no mercy by the 14-2. The second semi-final was as clear as the first one: Finnish Multinational Headquarters & Log Coy team ran over Slovakia by 10-0.

The bronze medal game between Czech and Slovakia was one of the most exciting ones ever. After full time the score was 8-8. The situation remained the same even after extra time. In the penalty shot shootout the Czechs finally managed to score one ahead and took the bronze medals.

The Grande Finale between Finnish teams started with great atmosphere. A-Coy was very well prepared and took 2-0 lead in the beginning of the first half period. Just before the break MNHQ & Log Coy succeeded to score and thus the result in the half time was 2-1. It didn’t take more than 10 seconds after the break that MNHQ & Log Coy scored again. Five minutes before full time MNHQ & Log Coy defender Toni Salmi offered a perfect pass to attacker Tiina Hänninen. She managed to provide an aggressive shot straight from the pass and it was a goal. In spite of A-Coy’s intensive pressure in the end the result remained unchanged: 3-2 victory for MNHQ & Log Coy team.
