SHIROKE 06 Aug 2008 - a meat producing factory has been reduced to ashes in a major fire.
Smoke from the burning meat factory was discovered at 12.15 from the Austrian camp. ManBn reacted immediately and sent fire fighting trucks and rescue vehicles to the scene from Camp Suva Reka.
All units, consisting of two Austrian and one Swiss fire fighting vehicles carrying each 20,000 litres of water were on the spot at 12.25. The fire was extinguished within a very short period of time.
No one was injured during the fire. Merely 20 tons of rotten meat were burned. The fire was caused, once more, by the burning of private garbage and trash in open terrain. The damage caused is considerable – 500,000 euros have, in the truest sense of the word, ended in smoke.
Thanks to the quick reaction of the multinational fire fighting brigade of the Task Force South (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and the local fire fighting units, more substantial damage to property and loss of life was prevented.
