The footbridge that joins north and south parts of the city was set up during the construction of Main Bridge. First conceived like a temporary passage, it met a straightforward success by the population that borrowed him regularly.
Its first framework, in wood, deteriorated quickly. That’s why the legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Regiment of Engineers started a work to rebuild a metallic footbridge. This project permit to stimulate the local economy and the new footbridge, inaugurated the 23rd of July, is a place of exchange between the different communities of the town.
