KFOR Cimic presentation in Pester/Peshter-Brus

On July 22, 2008, in the small village of Pester/Peshter-Brus, Lipljan/Lipjan Municipality, KFOR Multinational Task Force Center was proud to open the refurbished school.

Pester/Peshter-Brus is a small mountainous village which located near to Brus. The school has 60 students who come from all over the region. Prior to the work taking place, the school had no running water in their toilets and as a result water had to be taken from the nearest water source, which is 1 km away.

Members of the KFOR Irish Contingent commenced working on this project on the 28 Jun 08. The work was carried by both members of the Irish Contingent and Private contractors. The work involved many phases including connecting the school to the nearest water supply which was 1 km away, renovating the schools toilets and finally rewiring the school building which included the complete installation of new electrical fittings throughout.

The finance for this project, which amounted to 14000 euros, was provided by the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. The soldiers from the Irish Contingent also raised money towards the cost. When the works were completed and before the opening by Multinational Task Force Center Commander Brigadier General Hegarty, the Irish Soldiers decided to paint the school both inside and outside. The cost of the paint was paid for by the soldiers themselves.

On July 22, 2008, at 11.00 hrs, Brigadier General Gerry Hegarty officially opened the newly refurbished school. Present at the ceremony were Mr Nazmi Krasniqi, Director of Education for the Lipljan/Lipjan Municipality and Ivan Gashi, School Director.

General Hegarty congratulated everybody involved in the project. He said that children were the most important part of Kosovo’s future and that he would continue to assist similar projects. He also said it was a great honour to be involved in the project and that KFOR would continue to work with the Municipality on such projects. General Hegarty also thanked Mr. Filp Gashi, who donated the well for the project.

Mr. Nazmi Krasniqi, Director of Education for the Lipljan/Lipjan Municipality thanked KFOR for their assistance and said this was a great day for the Village of Pester/Peshter-Brus.
