KABUL, Afghanistan — Early in the morning of August 22, an Afghan National Army vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Badghis Province, killing two Afghan soldiers and seriously wounding two others.
The Spanish medical service of the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) saved their lives due to the quick response of the medical team. Both Afghan soldiers were later evacuated by Spanish medical helicopters to the Spanish Air Force Military Hospital (ROLE 2) in Herat, where they are currently recovering.
The permanent presence of ANSF and ISAF forces in Badghis is the basis for growing trust of the local population and enhances security in the area.
