ANSF, ISAF defeat IED threats
KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF prevented insurgents from emplacing IEDs Aug. 20 and 21 along the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Ghazni and Wardak provinces.

KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF prevented insurgents from emplacing IEDs Aug. 20 and 21 along the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Ghazni and Wardak provinces.
On Aug. 20, Task Force Currahee soldiers identified insurgents placing an IED in a culvert near Ghazni City. American helicopters identified then killed several of the insurgents.
Fleeing insurgents were tracked and engaged three more times as they left the site. Afghan and ISAF soldiers found three militants dead and discovered various munitions and IED making materials in a nearby house.
In a separate incident Aug. 21, Task Force Currahee soldiers identified about six insurgents emplacing an IED along a major road in the Sayad Abad district of Wardak province. ANSF and ISAF units called in an airstrike that killed several of the insurgents.
One insurgent retreated to a nearby tree line where he was seen with two more insurgents. American aircraft continued to engage the insurgents as they loitered in the area. ANSF and TF Currahee soldiers found four dead insurgents after an immediate search of the site.
No ANSF or ISAF personnel were injured, and there have been no reports of civilian casualties from these events.
