The Romanian National Flag

The Romanian National Flag has three colors placed vertically as follows: blue (hoist), yellow (in the middle) and red (fly). The width of each color band is one-third of the length.

The colors of our Flag are very important and symbolic for us.

The cobalt blue signifies the bright sky of freedom, the chrome yellow indicative of the fertile wheat fields of our Nation called by some "the breadbasket of Europe", while the vermilion red symbolic of the Patriots who died for Romania throughout its history.

Our Flag, whether called a standard or a banner, is a profound historical symbol, connected to the resistance of our people to tyranny, and is really on of our secrets of survival. The beloved Romanian tricolor (the colors red, yellow and blue are to be found also in Romania's coat of arms) remained a beloved symbol of the Romanian Nation, even after the advent of communism here in 1945.
