Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Denmark
General Ray Henault, Chairman of the Military Committee, paid an official visit to Denmark, from 21 – 23 November, where he met the Chief of Defence, General Jeser Helso, along with Danish Government officials, to discuss NATO priorities and Denmark’s valued contribution to Alliance operations “Denmark’s continuing contribution to NATO operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and our training mission in Iraq is greatly appreciated by the Allies,” said Gen. Henault. “Danish troops, operating in Southern Afghanistan are not only dealing with the insurgent threat but have offered to assist the Afghan National Army in their area, with training and mentoring, which shows how committed Denmark is to the ISAF mission and to the Alliance.” The Chairman met with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence, to discuss not only operations but Denmark’s ongoing transformation efforts that are enhancing its capabilities, as well as the sustainability of its deployed forces. Following the discussions, Gen. Henault was given a tour of Denmark’s Naval Frogman Corps facility, outside Copenhagen, where he was given an overview of Danish Special Operations capabilities and equipment. “From a NATO perspective, Denmark is clearly punching above its weight,” said the Chairman. “Under Gen. Helso’s leadership, the Danish military is adapting and modernizing, which will undoubtedly enhance its already impressive contribution to the Alliance.” |
