NATO’s major live-flying exercise in Northern Europe

NATO’s major live-flying exercise, NATO AIR MEET 2005 ( NAM 05) will take place from 3 - 15 September 2005, with live flying between 5 - 9 and 12 - 15 September. This year, the exercise will be hosted by Norwayand will be conducted by Component Command Air HQ Ramstein, Germany with participating aircraft operating out of Oerland Air Base, Norway.

orces from Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

NAM 05 is designed to exercise air forces in tactical air operations. It will focus on deployment for NATO Response Force units, offering integration training for aircrews in high intensity operations. It will practice and evaluate tactics for the use of composite air operations, with emphasis on the suppression of enemy air defences and electronic warfare.

The exercise area will be limited to Norway and specific parts of the North Sea and will involve more than 100 aircraft, including tanker and airborne early warning aircraft and ground-based air defence systems. No exercise flying will take place on the weekends. Flying will normally take place during daytime, however, night flights are planned to a moderate extend during the period 12 – 14 September. Flying down to 350 feet above ground level will take place in selected areas within the exercise area.

Media visiting from outside of Norway are encouraged to plan any visits for the periods 5 - 9 and 12 - 14 September, when live-flying operations will be conducted.
