NATO exercises with partners and mediterranean dialogue countries in Bulgaria

NATO will conduct an air force exercise in Bulgaria during the period 24 August - 05 September 2005, with live flying taking place between 01-04 September 2005. Exercise, COOPERATIVE KEY 05 (CK 05) has been designed as a combination Air Exercise, (AIREX), Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Live Exercise (LIVEX). Allied Component Command HQ I zmir (CC-AIR HQ IZMIR) will conduct the exercise which is hosted by Bulgaria. During the exercise, the main operating Air Bases will be Krumovo and Graf Ignatievo in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

This exercise involves Air Forces from the following NATO member nations: Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and the United States of America. The Partner nations Azerbaijan, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia , Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine will also participate. The Partner nation, Albania and Mediterranean Dialogue nations, Jordan and Mauritania will participate as observers.

CK 05 is designed to allow PfP and Mediterranean Dialogue countries’ Air Forces to practice and refine interoperability in air and limited land operations in support of a Crisis Response and Peace Support Operations scenario.

Note for the Editor:

A Press Information Center (PIC) will be established at Graf Ignatievo Air Base near Plovdiv throughout the exercise (24 August-05 September 2005).

Media visiting from outside of Bulgaria are encouraged to plan any visits for the periods 01-04 September 2005 when live-flying operations will be conducted.

A Press Day, inclusive of a Press Conference with the Exercise Co-Directors, will be held on 02 September 2005.

Turkey recognises the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.
