Factual background information:
At their meeting in Prague one and a half year ago, NATO Defence Ministers adopted the extensive restructure that is currently being implemented. As a result, there will be one strategic command for NATO’s Operations and one strategic command for Transformation, the latter being a great innovation. Allied Command Transformation is tasked to realize NATO’s ambition to adapt and transform into a modern and flexible defence organization to meet new threats. The Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), at Jåttå, will be directly subordinate to this Command. The JWC is to contribute to improving NATO’s military efficiency by promoting and conducting doctrine development. It will also be responsible for experimentation as well as training and interoperability of forces of NATO member nations. For these purposes, the former naval base of Ulsnes will be used as a JWC training centre.
