General Harald Kujat, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee visits the Republic of Poland
from 9-10 January 2003

General Harald KUJAT, Chairman of the Military Committee, NATO’s highest military authority, will visit the Republic of Poland from 9-10 January 2003. On 10 January, he will meet General Czeslaw PIATAS, Chief of Defence. Following bilateral talks, he will meet Mr. Jerzy SZMAJDZINSKI, Minister of National Defence. He will also be received by Mr. Aleksander KWASNIEWSKI, President of the Republic of Poland.

Later that afternoon, General KUJAT will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier at Square Marshal Pilsudski.

This is General KUJAT’s first visit to the Republic of Poland as Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee. The purpose of his visit is to discuss matters of common military interest, including the new NATO Command Structure, NATO’s Response Force, as well as the re-structuring of the Polish Armed Forces and Poland’s commitment to NATO’s capabilities.

There will be a Press Conference on 10 January at 1100hrs at The Polish Ministry of Defence, General Staff Building.
