Exercise Disciplined Warrior 2002
NATO
Headquarters in Spain conducts Command Post Exercise
Madrid, Spain - Joint Command South West (JCSW) will conduct NATO's annual
exercise DISCIPLINED WARRIOR (DW) from 21 January until 01 February 2002
in Pozuelo de Alarcon (Madrid). The exercise is designed to improve the
Southern Region's capabilities to carry out Crisis Response Operations
with emphasis on Peace Enforcement. Approximately 450 military personnel
are involved in the exercise including 150 augmentees from other NATO
Headquarters.
This Command Post Exercise will be conducted as a Computer Assisted Exercise
using modern simulation techniques and software and it is supported by
NATO's Southern Region HQs, and representatives from the United Nations,
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Red Cross.
DISCIPLINED WARRIOR is scheduled by the Regional Headquarters Allied
Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH), which is the NATO Headquarters responsible
for the Mediterranean area. The exercise will be conducted under the lead
of Lieutenant General Juan NARRO ROMERO, the Commander of Joint Command
Southwest (JCSW). The Deputy Commander JCSW, Major General Jose MONTEIRO
MARTINS, will act as Exercise Director.
NOTE FOR THE EDITORS
From 21 January until 01 February 2002 an exercise Allied Press Information
Centre (APIC) will be established in Madrid/ Spain.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES
Interested journalists have to be accredited by their media organisations
(Press ID or accreditation letter). The APIC will register media representatives,
and escort them during media events. A media opportunity will be offered
on 31 January 2001 (Press Conference at JOINT HEADQUARTERS SOUTHWEST).
It will be open to all registered journalists. Due to a limited number
of places for the event, the APIC regrettably cannot guarantee attendance
by every interested journalist.
