Exercise Cooperative Tide 2001
The Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic (SACLANT), General William F.
Kernan, announced today that military personnel from 12 nations will participate
in a NATO- Partnership for Peace command post exercise in May 2001. Exercise
COOPERATIVE TIDE 2001 (CT 01) will be conducted May 14-23 in Newport News,
Virginia, United States.
The aim of CT 01 is to train NATO and Partner staff officers in Naval
Coastal Warfare procedures by using a Peace Support Operations scenario
in accordance with NATO doctrine. The exercise will demonstrate the synergy
between coastal defence techniques and naval mine countermeasures. Additionally,
CT 01 aims to show the coordination between coastal defence techniques
and naval control of shipping, particularly in the area of port control.
Five NATO nations (Belgium, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the
United States) are expected to participate together with seven Partner
nations (Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine).
