	I know ! Or you think you know? Security matters to everybody but we do not realise it until our environment is threatened. Imagine that you could not go to school because of snipers firing in your street. Great. No school! you may think. But then you would quickly – very quickly - see that it is not that much fun at all. In fact, what our neighbours in the Balkans lived for several years was pretty horrendous.   Talks before tanks Listen, speak and try to understand each other before considering taking radical or even violent measures. This is common sense. Common sense that NATO puts into practice by applying diplomacy before considering the use of military force when there is a crisis.   Security is not a game Security concerns us all in our everyday life, from the moment we wake up in the mornings to when we step out into the street and go about our daily business. We do not realise it, but without it our lives are at risk. That is why security is not a game. Playing with security is playing with our own lives.   Cornelius (United Kingdom): Without security we would live in constant fear. The quality of our lives would be lower would it not be for international organisations that make sure that threats to us are kept low. Why do such large organisations work? Because everyone benefits and sees the advantage. This helps to make the international system less anarchic.   Pathum (Srilanka): Security does matter, I'm Pathum from Srilanka. I know what it is like to live, not sure whether I will live up to witness the rising sun of tommorow. I know what it is like to live amidst war. I never ever want to see the war again.As rev Tutu said"If you want peace ensure justice".I belive that it is a universal truth and I'm glad that in srilanka, presentday condition is really good and I hope it will improve. I wish peace and happiness for the whole world and I wish that some day a future generation would grow never knowing the sound of guns or the meaning of war.   Tobias (Damlos, Deutschland): Die Sicherheit zählt, ganz klar, für alle von uns. Für jeden von uns 6,5 milliarden Menschen auf diesem kleinen Planeten. Sicherheit, ob Zuhause oder im Ausland, ob in der Luft oder auf dem Wasser, egal wo, ist so wichtig wie Atmen. So wichtig wie Essen und Trinken. So wichtig wie unsere Freunde und Familie, in deren Reihen wir uns geborgen fühlen. Wir leben seit wir das erste Mal in einen freien, blauen Himmel schauten, das erste Mal eine hell leuchtende weiße Wolke vorbeiziehen sahen und ein klares, türkisfarbenes Meer erblickten. Und das muss gewahrt bleiben, für alle Zeit, denn wenn sich unsere Augen eines Tages verdunkeln und wir in die ewige Ruhe gehen, in die jeder einmal gehen muss, dann erinnern wir uns mit Freude an jene Dinge, die unser Leben lebenswert machten. Und wir erzählen allen davon, wie schön es doch war, auf diesem kleinen blauen Planeten, den wir uns einst teilten, und wie sehr wir das Lachen unserer Freunde vermissen, oder das Rauschen des Windes, dem wir einst in aller Ruhe lauschten. Was aber machen all jene Menschen, die so etwas nie erlebt haben? Haben sie nie wirklich gelebt? Eine grausame Vorstellung, und schon zuoft ist sie Wirklichkeit geworden... Setzen wir uns dafür ein, das dies, wenn möglich, noch von dieser Minute an nie wieder geschieht, ein für allemal! Wir sind alle dieselbe Sorte Mensch, ob es uns passt oder nicht, und stirbt einer von uns zu Unrecht, dann sterben wir alle...   More...   *These postcards are only distributed in Brussels.
