According to the Government of Kyrgyzstan the southern part of the country was hit by a 8-magnitude earthquake on 5th October 2008.
In Nura village, Alai region (houses – 211, population – 941) 75 people have died, 150 people have been evacuated to receive medical care, 128 houses have been destroyed completely, 95 percent of the infrastructure has been destroyed. Destruction is concentrated in the mountains close to the border with China.
