Fighting forest fires in Bulgaria

On 6 September 2008, Bulgaria sent to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) a request for assistance in fighting forest fires.

The forest fire started in the mountainous area of the national park “Rila” in the Blagoevgrad region, in the southwest of Bulgaria. Over 110 hectares of difficultly accessible forests and dry grass vegetation are in flames.
In line with its procedures, the EADRCC has forwarded the request to NATO and partner countries.
