On 31 July, the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) received from Ukraine an urgent request for assistance in coping with flooding in the country.
Several days of persistent heavy rain near the Prut and Dniestr rivers caused floods in Western Ukraine. More than forty thousand houses are flooded; hundreds of roads and almost 600 hundred bridges have been damaged. So far thirty people died. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated.
In line with its procedures, the EADRCC has forwarded the request to NATO and partner countries and has begun publishing situation reports on the development of the situation, the assistance provided and the outstanding needs.
