Republic, met with Lord Robertson on 10 December 2001
just over one month after the Secretary General's visit
to Bratislava on 5 November.

Bulgarian
Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with Saceur
|
|
|
Dr. Solomon Passy, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Bulgaria, met with Gen. Joseph Ralston, the Supreme Allied
Commander Europe, this morning at SHAPE Headquarters in
Casteau, Belgium. The morning discussions centred on Bulgaria's
ongoing military reform initiatives and participation in
NATO's Partnership for Peace program, and its ongoing contributions
to the NATO-led operations in the Balkans, including SFOR
(Bosnia-Hercegovina) and KFOR (Kosovo). In addition, Dr.
Passy and Gen. Ralston discussed Bulgaria's contribution
in support of Operation Enduring Freedom humanitarian assistance
operations in Afghanistan.

Conversion
of military sites in South Eastern Europe
|
|
| Concrete cooperation programmes for the conversion of
military sites for civilian use have been launched by the
Economics Directorate of NATO's Political Affairs Division.

Lord
Robertson in Romania
|
|
|
As part of his tour of countries aspiring to NATO membership,
Lord Robertson travelled to Bucharest, Romania, on 13
December. On this occasion, he met President Ion Iliescu,
Prime Minister Adrian Nastase and members of the Romanian
government. The Secretary General also met with parliamentarians
and representatives of the civil society to discuss progress
made by Romania in meeting membership criteria.

Visit
of Latvian Prime Minister
|

|
"NATO membership is a big political challenge",
stated the Prime Minister of Latvia, Mr Andris Berzins,
during a joint press conference with Lord Robertson. It
is one of Latvia's three foreign policy priorities, together
with EU membership and the development of good relations
with our neighbours, he added.
