Nearly 100 NATO generals met at SHAPE, 5-6 June, for the Allied
Command Europe Commander's Conference, organised by Supreme Allied
Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Joseph W. Ralston.

Sucessful
bidders for Feasibility Study Contracts
|
|
|
The Alliance's Consulation, Command and Contol Agency (NC3A) announces
the names of the two sucessful bidders for Feasibility Study Contracts,
to examine technical feasibility, coasts and time-scales for a theatre
missile defence system based on NATO requirements.

President at NATO HQ

The President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, came to NATO HQ, Brussels
on 6 June to meet with Lord Robertson. At a joint point de presse,
the Secretary General explained that they had discussed the tension
between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region,
as well as Armenia's continued participation in NATO's Partnership
for Peace (PfP) programme and the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council.

Defence ministers meet in Brussels
|

"We are here today to talk, to consult, to share our thinking
and to work together toward a better future. No more, no less than
that", declared Lord Robertson in his opening statement
to the meeting of Defence Ministers at NATO HQ, Brussels, 7-8 June.
The European Security and Defence Identity (ESDI), NATO's Defence
Capabilities Initiative (DCI), missile defence and developments
in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (1)
were at the core of discussions during the two days.

anniversary of Committee on Women in armed forces
|

|
At a time when the role of women in the armed forces is a topical
issue, with women being accepted in a growing number of different
sectors of the armed forces throughout the Western hemisphere, the
Committee on Women in the forces of NATO member countries is celebrating
its 25 years of existence.
