Lieutenant-General Blomjous (Dr) Andreas Gulielmus Maria Blomjous was born in Breda (The Netherlands) on 15 December 1943.
After having completed his pre-university education, he joined the Royal Military Academy in Breda. After having finished his training in August 1968 he joined the arm of the Cavalry as a second Lieutenant and was assigned to 101 Tankbattalion, 'Prince Alexander' Hussars Regiment, as a platoon commander. From January 1970 to January 1971 he held the appointment of Deputy squadron commander in the same battalion.
From January 1971 to August 1973 he was a platoon commander at the Cavalry Training Centre in Amersfoort. He was subsequently promoted to captain to hold the command of Bravo-squadron, 41 Tankbattalion, 'Prince Alexander' Hussars Regiment in Bergen (Hohne) in Gemany.
In June 1976 he started the Staff Sevice Course and subsequently took the Advanced Military Studies course in The Hague. After having been appointed general staff officer in July 1978, he was transferred to the Directorate of Material of the Royal Netherlands Army (DMKL) to become Project officer for Rationalisation in the rank of major in August that year.
In August 1980 he was appointed Logistics Instructor at the Army Staff College in The Hague. From August 1983 he was Deputy Head of the Training Matters Division at the Training Command of the Royal Netherlands Army (RNATC). In Amersfoort.
At the end of 1985 he was promoted a Lieutenant colonel and took command of 101 Tankbattalion. In June 1987 he returned to the Army Staff in The Hague as the Deputy Head of the Intelligence and Security Division. He fulfilled this function until January 1988, when he was transferred to the Army Staff's Plans Division, to become Deputy Head.
In February 1989 he returned to the DMKL as Head of the Major Equipment Division in the rank of colonel. On 25 April 1991 he was promoted to Brigadier-General upon his appointment as Deputy Director for Major Equipment.
On 25 July 1994 he became Assistent Chief of Staff of the Intelligence Division at the supreme Headquaters Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium, and was promoted to Major General.
On 1 July 1996 Major General Blomjous became Deputy Commander in Chief RNLA and Inspector of the Reserve Personnel RNLA.
On 23 April 1998 Major General Blomjous was promoted to Lieutenant General. Since May 15th 1998 he was appointed Head of the Netherlands Permanent Military Representation at NATO's Military Committee and Military Delegate to the WEU.
Lieutenant General Blomjous is married to Rosita Fick. The couple have two children.
Lieutenant General Blomjous was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau with Swords on 29 April 1993.
