- Born in 1951 in South-east Hungary, General Braun entered the Máté
Zalka Military College (Air Defence Department) in 1969. On graduation
in 1973 he was commissioned as a lieutenant and posted as a training
officer to the newly-established Air Defence Training Centre. In 1975
he became commanding officer of an Air Defence missile battalion and
was then promoted to captain.
He was selected for a postgraduate engineering course at the Military
Engineering University in Kiev, which he attended from 1978-82. On his
return to Hungary he was promoted to major and posted to the staff of
the 5th Army as senior training officer. While in this position he was
responsible for retraining required by the changeover from artillery
weapons to missiles. He subsequently became Chief of the Training Cell.
In 1986 he was posted to the MOD as Development Officer in the Directorate
of Air Defence, where he was responsible for the procurement and introduction
into service of new air defence weapons. He was promoted to lieutenant
colonel in 1989 and to colonel in 1994, following his appointment as
Deputy Director. He had attended the first post-war General Officers'
Staff Course at the Zrinyi Miklós Military Academy from 1993-94.
He became Director, responsible for both Army and Home Defence Air Defence
Forces, and was promoted to brigadier general in 1996.
General Braun was then appointed Deputy Director-General of Aviation
and Air Defence. With the restructuring of the Armed Forces and the
creation of a separate Air Force in 1997, he assumed the appointment
of Deputy Chief of the Air Staff. He has attended numerous professional
courses both in Hungary and abroad, the most recent being the NATO Defense
College General and Flag Officers' Course 2000.
He has been promoted to the rank of major general as of 1st March,
2001.
He has five children and a grandson. He is married to Zsuzsa and has
a stepson. He is a keen sportsman, who enjoys fishing, football and
tennis.
